Lego-Themed Birthday Party

So I don’t show my kids’ faces online, but I will show their birthday parties!

This year my son has become utterly obsessed with Legos, so a Lego Birthday party was a must! I wanted to share some photos of what we did, to give you guys some inspiration if you’re looking for it. I really love being able to throw my kids birthday parties, but I’m not a fan of spending an arm and a leg on supplies, games, party favors…. so most of this stuff can be found at the Dollar Tree, which is truly my go-to place for Birthdays. My theory is is that they’ll get the super fancy stuff for their wedding, when they’re adults and can truly appreciate it ;)

Keep scrolling for more ideas, and where I got it all!

I always like to have a big ‘statement’ wall at my kids birthday parties. It’s usually what I put the most time into. The streamers were from the Dollar Tree, and I felt really covered up the Stucco wall behind it!

By the way, if you’re having a hard time getting paper to stick to a stucco wall, my husband and I, (through trial and error!) have discovered that mounting putty works well, and comes off easily!

The cake was… a lesson in swallowing my pride! Although I’m comfortable in the kitchen, I haven’t quite devoted enough time to make really stellar cakes for my kids. But I’ve made them where they’ve tasted pretty good, and the decorating has been at least presentable, and I’ve been proud of that! I’m all about homemade. The morning before the party though, I went to make his cake and it sunk in the middle. After some hemming and hawing, I decided to just swallow my pride and order a half sheet cake from Costco (Make sure you do that a day in advance), because truly- they have the best store bought cake for the price!

I asked them to keep it plain, and then took different colors of Wafer Chocolates and melted them into this LEGO Ice cube tray I found off Amazon, (although I saw it at the LEGO store as well, if you live near one of those). It’s so detailed, there’s even the little LEGO logo on each brick!

The cake was a total hit, and I’m glad I didn’t bring it out until it was time to cut into the cake- the kids were fascinated by the chocolate legos and were delighted to get 1 or 2 on each of their slices so they could examine the edible brick.

I got my son involved and asked him to construct the number 5 for me out of his own legos. He was proud to contribute to his cake topper!

I really lucked out with the fact that Dollar Tree is selling LEGO themed birthday supplies! I got the tablecloths, plates, and banner from there. You can get this on Amazon, but getting it Dollar Tree definitely saved a lot of money.

As much as I love Dollar Tree, I’ve learned to beware of their cups! They’re usually pretty thin and can leak. I also knew I needed specifically yellow cups, so for these I went to Party city and filled them with popcorn. Then I drew on the faces to make them look like minifigures. They added a nice pop of color to the table!

This Lego head is actually a Redvine contained I painted Yellow!I thought it was such a clever idea when I saw it on Pinterest. I think it would have looked a little better if I had spray painted it instead of just painted acrylic paint, but you go the idea. Live and learn :)

My kids love anything having to do with Arts and Crafts, but I wasn’t sure if the kids would get as excited about decorating their own minifigure as mine were. Thankfully, it was a hit! The kids worked on their own little lego guys as they snacked on popcorn and took a break from running around the yard. I got the paper from Joann’s, then the stickers, markers, glue sticks, and little trays from the Dollar Tree.

To hold their Minifigures when they were done, I (also!) bought these bags from the Dollar Tree. They came, I think, in packs of 5, and I made sure I had a couple extra bags to cut up into circles and pop on there with double-sided foam tape.

But also, each bag held their own little assembled LEGO! I looked up different lego party favors, but they all just seemed cheap stuff you’d throw away in a week or two. I ended up just buying a LEGO building case that had several different options of what you could make with it, and had fun assembling them all one night. A $16 case of legos were still cheaper than a $20 pack of knock-off lego-inspired glasses, and I’d like to think that these will be played with for a good long time!

As part of the entertainment, we pulled out our bouncy house, which I was quite delighted really went with the color scheme! We got one for our kids last year for Christmas, but because of a shipping error, we ended up with two! We’ve never pulled both of them out, but each one can only hold 3-4 kids at a time, so a party like this seemed to be a good reason to. If you’re on the fence about getting your kids a bouncy house, DO IT! They’re worth every penny- they truly love it. And it can easily be put away when you want that part of your yard back. It’s always a hit!

And lastly, we had this bean bag throwing game out for the kids! I bought pieces of felt and cut out circles to look like a LEGO brick, then filled each one with rice. It was simple and a little extra!

I hope you enjoyed looking through this, and that it gave you some good ideas for your upcoming party.
